2012.04.17 Tuesday Washout in Sorrento

Rainy days and Mondays, followed by rainy Tuesdays always get me down, to paraphrase the song.  We awoke to the pouring rain and actually took our time over breakfast hoping for a change in the weather.  Well, we got our wish, sort of - the rain got even more intense!  But, hey, we're on holiday - so - it's the walking tour, come hell or high water!  And yes, we got the high water!  After wandering in the rain to all the spots in the guide book for several hours we took refuge in the Sorrento Cathedral dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo which is beautiful inside and is famous for its intarsia (wood inlay) doors and plaques.  With our shoes soaked and water wicking up to our knees, we grabbed some picnic food - sandwiches, cheese, strawberries and headed for the hotel.  It was a toss-up between that and sitting like drowned rats in a restaurant.  In the afternoon we read until dinner time, when the rain finally stopped.  We went out for dinner and the best sightseeing we have had since arriving in Sorrento - finally, no rain.

Los días lluviosos y los lunes, seguidos de los martes de lluvia siempre me deprimen, parafraseando la canción. Nos despertamos a la lluvia y, de hecho tomamos nuestro tiempo durante el desayuno con la esperanza de un cambio en el clima. Bueno, tenemos nuestro deseo, más o menos - la lluvia se hizo aún más intenso! Pero, bueno, estamos de vacaciones - que - es el recorrido a pie, contra viento y marea! Y sí, nos dieron el alta del agua! Después de vagar bajo la lluvia para todos los puntos en el libro de guía durante varias horas, que se refugiaron en la catedral de Sorrento dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo, que es precioso por dentro y es famoso por su técnica de taracea (incrustación de madera) las puertas y placas.
