2012.04.14 Saturday Exploring Rome

We started the day by touring the Santa Maria Maggiore church which is famous for its mosaics in the nave. Unfortunately, we then had to spend 2 hours purchasing bus tickets to Sorrento. 



We then proceeded to the Spanish Steps where we admired the architecture through a sea of umbrellas!  For lunch we had pizza (imagine that, in Italy yet) at a nearby tratorria where our beverage or bibite was included - water, wine, pop or beer!  After lunch it was back to the Trevi Fountain where Gail through a 2 cent piece in the fountain and wished for sunshine and miraculously the skies cleared! 



We continued our walking tour with the Pantheon (another temple converted to a church), piazza Navona with it's famous four river fountain and finished at the Campo di Fiori or field of flowers, the famous market place.  From there we walked back to our hotel taking one last look at the Forum and Trajan's marketplace.  We had dinner for the 3rd and last time at what was obviously our favourite tratorria not far from our hotel.

Después del desayuno, nos dirigimos al coliseo bajo un cielo gris pero seco y recorrió las ruinas. Ellos son increíbles en el tamaño y la tecnología y la arquitectura es increíble .. Ascensores para llevar a los leones y gladiadores en el nivel principal, así como la capacidad de inundar el escenario para recrear famosas batallas navales. .

A continuación, tomó el metro hasta la Ciudad del Vaticano, momento en el cual los cielos se habían abierto. A continuación, seguido de las multitudes (el 99% de todos los otros turistas en Roma) (hemos mencionado a las multitudes, y es sólo de abril!) A través del museo durante 2 horas, hombro con hombro, de ser barridos por la marea de la humanidad hasta que llegamos en la boca de la Capilla Sixtina mosh. Los Museos Vaticanos contienen obras de arte increíble y estatuas, pero es difícil apreciarlos a causa de la multitud. Finalmente nos dirigimos a San Pedro (San Pedro), donde la multitud se había diluido y pudieron disfrutar de la primera entre todas las iglesias. Esta es la iglesia más grande del mundo y vimos la piedra donde Carlomagno fue coronado entre otras cosas. No tuvimos la oportunidad de ver a Joe (algunos lo llaman Benedicto XVI), a pesar de que le había enviado una nota para hacerle saber que no habría una oportunidad para una foto con algunos isleños. (;-)

Після сніданку ми пішли на Колізей під сірим небом, але сухий і оглянув руїни. Це неймовірне за розмірами і технологією та архітектура дивно .. Ліфти для приведення левів і гладіаторів на першому поверсі, а також можливість затопити арену для того, щоб відтворити відомі морські битви. .

Потім ми взяли на метро до Ватикану, і до цього часу небо відкрили. Потім йшли натовпу (99% від усіх інших туристів в Римі) (ми згадали натовпу, і це тільки квітень!) По музею протягом 2:00, плечем до плеча, то полетів в хід людство поки не прийшли на шахті Сікстинської капели мош. Музеї Ватикану містять неймовірні твори мистецтва та скульптури, але це важко оцінити їх, бо з натовпу. Врешті-решт ми дісталися до Сан-П'єтро (Святого Петра), де натовп порідшали і змогли насолодитися першим серед всіх церков. Це найбільша церква в світі, і ми побачили камінь, де Карл Великий був коронований зокрема. Ми не отримали можливість побачити Джо (деякі називають його Бенедикт), хоча ми послали йому записку і дайте йому знати, що буде можливість для фото оп з деяких островів. (;-)
