2012.05.01 Tuesday - May Day - Milano

We hopped the train - half-empty - to Milano.  A bit apprehensive about the train as it is a holiday and thought it might be packed. 



Most things were closed, but thankfully the Duomo (Basilica) was open as well as most of the area around it.  We toured the Duomo - the fourth largest in the world - the outside is a fairy tail lacy design and inside you find 52 marble columns, 2000 statues (they ran out of saints (;-) after that).  It was built to hold 40,000 worshipers, the entire population of Milano when it was started in 1386 (finally completed in 1810).  This was really one of the most beautiful cathedrals we have seen.



We then checked out the Victor Emmanuel Gallery, the first shopping centre in the world, where Gail went shopping at Prada - although she didn't buy anything and Ted checked out the Mercedes-Benz store. 

And, on cue, just before we returned to the hotel, the heavens opened up - we had become quite worried about the five day drought.

Esto fue realmente una de las catedrales más bellas que hemos visto.

A continuación, comprueba la Galería Víctor Manuel, el primer centro comercial en el mundo, donde Gail se fue de compras en Prada - aunque ella no comprar nada y Ted nos registramos en el almacén de Mercedes-Benz.

Y, en el momento justo, justo antes de regresar al hotel, los cielos se abrieron - que se había puesto muy preocupado por la sequía de cinco días.
